Citizens Advice Bureau
Volunteering
Trained and qualified volunteer advisers are key to how we help thousands of people resolve their legal, money and other problems every year.
80% of the people who work for Caerphilly County CAB are volunteers, and we always need more people to offer their time, skills, knowledge and experience. We are particularly keen to increase the number of 50+ volunteers.
We need volunteers to work on reception; to help with administration and general office duties; to train to be an adviser before working at one of our advice outlets and to participate in Social Policy work.
We asked our workers why they volunteer; these are some of their replies:
- we meet new people and develop new friendships
- we use our existing skills and learn new ones
- we can use our knowledge and experience
- we can spend time helping people
- it’s fun!
- I’d used the service myself and thought ‘I could do that…’
- I can put something back into the community
- it makes good use of our free time
- I like working as part of a team
- I’m too young to retire!
If you would like to be able to say the same things, then working for the Citizens Advice Bureau could be for you.

Do expenses for voulunteering impact on benefits?
Money paid to volunteers to refund the cost of meals taken during voluntary activity will be included as one of the expenses disregarded for benefit purposes. Previously volunteers have had to meet the cost of meals out of their benefits.
